Honda Recalls 1.4 Million Vehicles Due to Defects Mechanical and Electrical Safety Concerns

December 17, 2020

According to an online news report published on, Honda announced that the company initiated a recall of 1.4 million motor vehicles due to several mechanical and electrical defects, including a software recall, two driveshaft recalls, and a window switch recall.*

Honda's software recall affects 737,000 Honda Accords manufactured from 2018 to 2020, and Honda Insights manufactured from 2019 to 2020. A programming error that involves the control computer can cause the turn signals, windshield wipers, and the rear camera to fail.  The owners of the recalled vehicles will receive a notice in the mail in late January explaining where and when they should take their motor vehicles to the closest Honda dealership for a repair.

Honda's two driveshaft recalls affect more than 430,000 Honda Civic Hybrids manufactured in 2012, the Honda Fit manufactured in 2007 through 2014, the  Acura ILX manufactured from 2013 through 2015, and the Honda Accord manufactured between 2013 through 2015. The recalls only pertain to motor vehicles sold in the 22 states where salt is used to clear snow from roads during the winter.  The affected drive shafts can crack due to corrosion.  Honda dealers will examine the left and right drive shafts for corrosion and replace the drive shafts if needed.  The replacement parts are being manufactured, and the parts are not available just yet.  Owners will receive a notification in February.

Approximately 268,000 CR-Vs manufactured between 2002 through 2006 are included in the power window switch recall.  When water gets inside an open driver's window, it can cause an electrical short or fire.  This is the second recall for the same problem.  Honda announced that owners should bring their SUVs into a local dealership for repairs as soon as they get a recall notice. The notices will be mailed starting in late January.
