NHTSA to Investigate Reports of Front Suspension Fore Link Failure on Tesla Model S and X Cars
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that the agency is launching a preliminary investigation of potential safety concerns with Tesla Model S and Model X cars.
The investigation involves Tesla Model S cars manufactured from 2015 to 2017 and Tesla Model X cars built from 2016 to 2017.
NHTSA reported that their agency had received 43 complaints alleging the auto have a defect causing the left or right front suspension fore links to fail. NHTSA further reported that around 25% of those failures occurred while the owner was driving the vehicle.
It was also discovered that the number of complaints has been increasing, with most of the complaints being reported in the last two years. Three of the events happened within the previous three months, while the drivers were operating the motor vehicles at highway speeds. The preliminary investigation is designed to determine the extent, frequency, and outcomes of the alleged defect.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges vehicle owners to inform NHTSA of any safety issues at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint or by calling NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline.
