Teens Injured in Overturned Golf Cart in Weston, Florida (FL)

October 12, 2020

WESTON, FL- writes that an afternoon golf cart accident injured three teenagers this week in Weston, Florida. The teen driving the vehicle suffered severe injuries when the vehicle overturned.

The authorities identified the driver as a fourteen-year-old boy and stated that responders rushed him to the Memorial Regional Hospital via airlift. Two passengers identified as a thirteen-year-old and a fourteen-year-old were also injured in the crash when they were ejected from the cart. The driver reportedly was crushed beneath the cart. One of the other victims was also rushed to the hospital under a trauma alert for severe injuries.

Golf carts are not only used on golf courses. People now take these lower speed vehicles on two roads, sidewalks, and in parks. Many people suspect that the lower speed and the easy operation of golf carts mean that they are safe for children to operate. One pediatrician warns parents that golf carts are not toys and that it is dangerous to let children ride on these vehicles or drive them.

When it comes to safety-related to golf carts, parents should keep in mind that no one under fourteen years old should operate a golf cart without supervision. Golf carts should never be overloaded with equipment or people, everyone should have their arms and legs inside the cart at all times, children should not ride an adult slaps, seatbelts should be used if available, and occupants should be ready to use hand grips in the event of a fall. Florida law states that golf carts should be used for recreational purposes and for use on golf courses. Golf carts are not legally permitted on any roads where the speed limit is above 35 mph. Statistics indicate that the rate of golf cart-related injuries is on the rise.
