Study Shows Georgia is in Fifth Place for Deadly Crashes
GEORGIA- In the last decade, the number of drivers above 65 years of age on the road has increased drastically, by 30 percent. One out of every five drivers on the road is over 65 years old.
A recent study found that Georgia comes in fifth in the country in terms of deadly car crashes that occur within the population of individuals over the age of 65. The rankings were based on the number of crashes per 100,000 people.
In 2017, older drivers were involved in fourteen percent of deadly car crashes. Nationally, people in the 65 and older category are dying in traffic violence in much higher numbers than in the past. Signs someone may need to stop driving include that the person has a tough time hearing or seeing more than they used to, lose their place in conversations more frequently and have difficulty with motor control and experience slower reaction times.
Seniors are not the only age group associated with more vehicle wrecks. Drivers between fifteen and twenty years old are also responsible for a larger number of crashes.
