The Deadliest Roads in Florida, The Sunshine State

May 01, 2020

FLORIDA- writes that Florida has, on average, 650 car crashes every day. The causes of the wrecks often include dangerous driving behaviors such as drunk or distracted motorists, but also may involve weather or mechanical problems with vehicles. Sometimes, statistics reveal that certain roads are experiencing disproportionately high numbers of incidents. When this occurs, there could be a problem with the road itself. For instance, the speed limit may allow drivers to travel at high rates of speed, or the road may have sharp curves that present risks to motorists. In other cases, roads have more crashes because they are heavily trafficked and often congested.*

When it comes to the roads with the most fatalities in the state, number one on the list is Interstate 4. Data indicates the interstate has 1.25 deaths per mile. At the halfway point between Orlando and Daytona is a stretch of the interstate that has been named the “dead zone.” The road is busy, and often under construction, both of which likely contribute to dangerous driving hazards.

The next road on the list is Interstate 95 Express Toll in Miami, followed by the Interstate 95 North Miami. In 2015, more lives were lost on this road than any other in the United States.

It is well documented that most accidents can be prevented with a little extra care and safety education.  Since 1984, Montlick & Associates has been dedicated to keeping children and families safe on the roadway.  Our commitment runs deep through our extensive, award-winning public service programs that provide people the information they need to avoid injuries.  To learn about our Don't Drink and Drive Campaign, Child Passenger Safety Programs, Booster Seat Campaign and much more, visit and click on “community service,” or simply click here.
