Vehicle-to-Vehicle Technology Means Smarter Cars
USA- There are many pilot programs throughout the nation that are working on learning how vehicle-to-vehicle technology (V2V), will change the driving landscape. The technology may allow vehicles to communicate with one another, and proponents of the tech believe that it will increase traffic safety and efficiency.*
In addition to V2V tech, there is vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology and vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) technology. Together, the systems are referred to as vehicle-to-everything technology (V2X). Some in the industry believe that the implementation of the technology could cut down on car crashes by about 80 percent. The results would be a drastic drop in motor vehicle deaths and injuries.
The cars will be able to share information. This will allow one vehicle to tell another vehicle that it is slowing so that the car behind it does not rear-end the decelerating car.
The interconnected vehicle technology may be able to take some of the responsibility away from people and give some control to technology that can help prevent crashes caused by human error and distracted driving.
For those who are working to introduce this technology, there are known hurdles. Many motorists are wary of cars that are going to tell them how to drive or take decision making out of their hands. However, many motorists already have blind spot warnings and other features that are used to help drivers avoid collisions.
