Details Released from NTSB Concerning Two Tesla Autopilot Crashes

March 06, 2020

USA- The National Transportation Safety Board released details related to two collisions that involved Tesla's autopilot features, according to USNEWS.COM.  The incidents occurred in Florida and California. One of the wrecks investigated by the Board was in response to a crash that tragically killed an Apple engineer on a Silicon Valley road. Reports indicate that the engineer complained prior to the fatal incident about his Tesla SUV not working properly on the same stretch of road where it ultimately collided with a concrete wall.*

The victim's family stated that the Tesla SUV had been causing problems for its owner, leading up to the deadly collision. The Autopilot feature is capable of changing and maintaining lanes, but it is only intended to be used while a driver is assisting and ready to take over if necessary. Records recovered from the crash show that the victim may have been using his phone shortly before the incident occurred.

The other collision investigated took place in Delray Beach, Florida last year. In that crash, the driver turned on his Model 3’s Autopilot feature, removed his hands from the steering wheel, and ten seconds later, the Tesla drove under the trailer of a semi-truck sheering the roof from the Model 3 tragically killing the driver.
