Ten “Hotspots” for Car Accidents Over the Holidays

December 23, 2019

USA- The writes that some of the most dangerous roads for holiday travel are located in Atlanta, Georgia. A study that covered more than 200,000 highway crashes found that Interstate 20, Interstate 75, and Interstate 85 Downtown Connector area is the number one most dangerous place to be driving over the holiday season.*

Between 2016 and 2018, 52 crashes took place at this location. Coming in second is Miami’s Interstate 95, Interstate 395 Interchange, where 50 collisions occurred in the same time period. Interstate 10, Interstate 110 Interchange in Los Angeles came in third, but with 27 incidents, the total number of crashes exhibited a massive drop compared to the top two spots on the list.

Three cities in Texas all made the top ten list with a combined 75 crashes.

Go Safe Labs conducted the study and released the report in the hopes that it would help advise holiday travelers of locations to avoid.

The reason the holidays spark a rise in vehicle collisions is partially because of many people traveling through areas for the first time. Confusing infrastructure can be difficult for drivers to navigate when they are not familiar with an area.

Drunk driving rates increase throughout the holiday period as well. The increased number of people driving after imbibing at holiday social events adds to the risks of holiday travel. Many law enforcement departments will be out on the road in full force to apprehend drivers who are under the influence.  Families should use extra caution and always plan ahead with a designated driver before drinking alcohol.
