Woman Injured In Crash With Cattle Truck on Interstate 10 in Mobile, Alabama (AL)

July 26, 2020

MOBILE, AL- writes that a woman was severely injured this week in an evening crash that involved a cattle truck. The incident occurred on Interstate 10 in Mobile close to the Wallace Tunnel exit. The victim was in a 2010 Ford Fusion when a tractor-trailer carrying cattle tipped over onto the woman’s car.*

Reports state that the woman was trapped inside her vehicle for an hour or more. Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to extract the victim by removing the Ford’s crushed roof that was pinning her within the car.

Rescuers stated that the woman was conscious when they removed her from the Ford and transported her to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola via airlift.

The truck was transporting 104 cattle at the time, and the crash killed 25. Seward Farms helped to recover the animals at the scene.

The truck was on a route from Florida to Oklahoma at the time of the wreck.

Large truck crashes lead to thousands of deaths every year throughout the nation. According to Consumer Reports, safety features being used more often in passenger vehicles are helping to reduce the number of crashes involving cars and SUVs. However, most trucks are not equipped with the same systems. Many tragic crashes would likely be prevented if vehicles had crash prevention technology as well as blind-spot warnings and other safety features that exist but are not being used in many cars and trucks on the road.

Given the fact that large trucks can weigh 80,000 pounds, any crash involving these massive vehicles is likely to result in horrible consequences.
