Vehicle Strikes Front of Hair Salon in DeKalb County, Georgia

March 19, 2020

DEKALB COUNTY, GA- writes that a car collided with a hair salon in DeKalb County, Georgia. The incident occurred in the late morning over the weekend on North Hairston Road. The motorist sustained injuries in the incident, but the severity of those injuries is not known at this time.*

A witness said that sound made her think something structural happened with the building, but was shocked to see a car inside of the shop. Police are working to determine the cause of the collision. Images of the shop show debris and glass covering the floor.

Many people fail to realize how frequently cars drive into buildings, and through the walls. When it comes to car into building collisions, the cars often are able to break right through the wall.

One of the disturbing factors about car into building wrecks is that they indicate that pedestrians cannot avoid traffic violence even in their homes, places of work, or at restaurants.

Each year about 500 people die in crashes involving cars driving into buildings. Another 4,000 people suffer injuries in these incidents. Across the United States, cars crash into buildings on average 60 times every day. In addition, these wrecks impact people’s livelihoods as most occur in commercial locations, and the necessary repairs can leave people out of work, sometimes for extended periods of time.

One tragic aspect of car into building accidents is that they are entirely preventable. One of the main reasons that these incidents are so common is that businesses are either required to provide parking lots just feet away from their buildings or because they choose to have the spaces directly in front of their buildings. As a result, one minor error on the part of a driver can cause massive several-ton vehicles to come crashing into a shop, restaurant, or other building.
