Two-Vehicle Collision on Alabama 24 in Huntsville, Alabama

March 21, 2020

HUNTSVILLE, AL- writes that a teenager was injured in a two-vehicle collision in Huntsville. The incident occurred on Alabama 24 at its intersection with County Road 108 in the early morning. Reports indicate that the teen had to be extricated from a white sedan that he was operating at the time of the collision.*

While the air-evacuation team was contacted, they were unable to respond to the scene because of weather conditions in the area. The condition of the boy is not currently available.

Intersection crashes are common and cause a high number of injuries and deaths every year. The risks involved in crossing through an intersection are high because drivers are traveling in different directions and towards one another. If a driver makes a simple error or passes through a traffic control device, the results can be a horrific side-impact collision or a head-on collision in some instances. Left turns are particularly hazardous as they require that a driver crosses over a lane of oncoming traffic. In many instances, drivers who do this fail to accurately gauge the speed of the approaching cars.

One way to reduce intersection crash risks is to install roundabouts in place of a traditional cross-section. While many drivers are uncomfortable with roundabouts at first, they have proven extremely effective when it comes to reducing the number of collisions that happen at an intersection. The number of injurious or deadly wrecks drops even further, largely because all of the vehicles are traveling in the same direction. Roundabouts also help slow the flow of traffic, significantly making any resulting crashes less severe.

Another added benefit of these traffic features is that they improve the flow of traffic.
