Tragic Late-Night Crash Kills One and Injures One in Citronelle, Alabama

January 06, 2020

CITRONELLE, AL- writes that a collision occurred in Citronelle earlier this week that left one induvial dead. The single-vehicle wreck took place on Lebaron Avenue in the late evening. The vehicle involved rolled over, and the victim was ejected.*

Another individual was stuck inside the vehicle when responders arrived on the scene. The injured person is in a local hospital receiving treatment. Reports do not indicate what caused the collision, and the victim’s identity has not yet been released.

When a vehicle occupant is ejected from a car, that person will have just a 25 percent chance of surviving. Ejections are part of the reason that rollover accidents are so deadly. Rollovers are involved in just about three percent of all wrecks, and yet about 30 percent of people killed in crashes die in rollovers. Wearing a seatbelt is the best precaution to take in order to avoid being ejected from a car.

When it comes to single-vehicle accidents, the vast majority of these incidents are the result of human errors. Single-vehicle run off the road collisions typically involves a person who was speeding, drunk, drowsy or distracted. Weather can increase risks to a driver, but in most cases, this is just one of the contributing factors, and the driver could have slowed down to avoid a crash. In some situations, driving at the speed limit is still too fast.

Curves in the roadway are also a factor that can lead to rollovers. Winding roads with sharp turns can increase the risks of vehicles overturning. SUVs and pickup trucks are at a heightened risk of rollovers because of their taller and more top-heavy design.
