Accidents involving large trucks present a multitude of dangers. Because of the size of large trucks, accidents involving tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles are often devastating for the person or people in the smaller vehicle. In many of these accidents, the driver of the truck is not at fault, but instead, the driver of a smaller vehicle got into the pathway of the larger vehicle. Of course, it can be difficult for the driver of a large truck to maneuver to avoid an accident. For instance, it takes these vehicles far more time to stop than it does for a passenger vehicle and making quick moves to the side can be impossible for large trucks as well. Another risk is that many large trucks carry substances that might be hazardous or flammable. When an accident involving one of these chemicals takes place, there can be secondary dangers, including fires. This can make the rescue and cleanup operation more challenging.
Because of all of the risks associated with tractor-trailers, it is essential that other drivers on the road give plenty of space to large trucks and remember that they will have more difficulties maneuvering than a smaller vehicle would.
