Tragic Head Injury Caused by a Hit-and-Run Accident in Celina, Ohio

CELINA, OH – According to an online news report at dailystandard.com, a man from Montezuma, Ohio was taken into custody for causing a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian with a serious head injury.*

In the afternoon hours, the Celina police was dispatched to the scene of an accident that left a 70-year-old man with serious injuries.  The man was attempting to cross the street at a designated crosswalk at the Logan Street intersection.  The driver, a 70-year-old man from Montezuma, Ohio was headed west on East Logan Street in a 2003 Ford pickup truck.  As he entered the intersection, he struck the man while he was located in the crosswalk.  The victim was thrown onto the ground, which resulted in a serious head injury.  He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. It is not clear as to his status at this time.  The man who hit the victim did not stop after causing the crash.  After the accident, the man continued to travel south on United States Highway 127.

Eyewitnesses came forward and gave police a description of the vehicle.  A security camera from a local store caught the accident on video.  A witness gave a description of the unique design on the man’s pickup truck, which helped identify the suspect. The Mercer County Sheriff’s office recalled the design and was able to locate the vehicle and its driver.  The suspect was arrested and charged with causing a hit-and-run accident.  

According to a press release on the accident,"[t]he Celina Police Department would like to give special thanks to our citizens both mentioned and not mentioned in this article who helped to quickly identify the suspect in the case," the release stated.
