Major Accident Occurs on Interstate 95; Tractor-Trailer Overturned

NEWARK, DE – According to an online news report at firststateupdate.com, emergency personnel and law enforcement from across New Castle County were dispatched to the scene of an accident that occurred on Interstate 95.*

It appears, pursuant to a preliminary investigation, that an 18-wheeler crossed over the median and overturned. It is not clear how the accident occurred.  The identification of the crash victims has not been released to the public.  

Per the Delaware State Police, they were on the scene of a multiple-vehicle accident that involved a tractor-trailer that overturned, causing the closure of both the southbound and northbound lanes close to the area of Route 27.  The closure lasted for several hours while emergency personnel and law enforcement worked the scene.  A medical helicopter was dispatched to the accident scene to transport the victims to an area hospital.  The extent of injuries and the current status of the accident victims are not known at this time.   

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
