Bus Fatally Hits Bicyclist on Hwy 75 in Valdosta, Georgia

VALDOSTA, GA. – According to a news report posted online by wctv.tv, a bus fatally hit a bicyclist on Highway 75 in Valdosta, Georgia. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident, and officials have not yet released identifying information on the victim of the crash or the driver of the bus.*

The accident happened in the early evening at the intersection with Old Clyattville Road on Highway 75. Georgia State Patrol and WCTV report that around 5 p.m., a Mids Inc. bus was traveling south on the highway, while a person on a bicycle was headed west on Old Clyattville Road. At the crossing of the roadways, the bus attempted to make a right-hand turn and ended up colliding with the bicycle. 

WCTV reports that the front of the bus struck the bicycle, causing the bike to become trapped underneath the bus. It is not clear at this time how the accident happened or whether the bus or the bicycle had the right-of-way before the collision. The full details of the accident have not yet been reported by investigators. 

WCTV states that the bicyclist was tragically killed in the accident. He has not yet been identified. The driver of the bus has also not been identified. The report indicates he or she was not injured. The report says that one person was on the bus at the time, and that person was also not injured in the collision. The passenger was not identified in the report, either. 

Georgia State Patrol Troopers are investigating the accident and have not yet said whether charges will be filed. Troopers reportedly indicated that determinations about charges would be made following the conclusion of their investigation. At the time that the report from WCTV was posted online, investigators had not released additional information regarding the collision.
