Man from Georgia Sustains Fatal Injuries in Effingham County, Illinois Accident

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, IL – According to an online news report at, a man from Georgia tragically sustained fatal injuries in a crash that occurred on Interstate 70 in Effingham County, Illinois over the weekend.*

Per a report issued by the Illinois State Police, the crash occurred on Interstate 70 east at mile marker 81 in the late afternoon hours.  The report indicates that a vehicle operated by a 68-year-old man from Lawrenceville, Georgia, a pickup truck driven by a 31-year-old from Saint Thomas, Pennsylvania, and a tractor-trailer operated by a 44-year-old from Crocker, Missouri were all stopped in the right lane due to backed-up traffic that was coming upon a construction zone.  

At this time, a pickup truck being driven by a 69-year-old man hit into the rear of the 68-year-old’s vehicle.   The 68-year-old’s vehicle, as a result of the impact of the crash, slammed into the rear-end of the 31-year-old’s vehicle. The 31-year-old’s vehicle then slammed into the 44-year-old’s truck.

As a result of the accident, the 69-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Effingham County Coroner.  

The 69-year-old driver of the pickup truck received a citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crashes remain under investigation by the local police.
