Weather-Related Wreck Reported on I-95 in St. Johns County, Florida

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report published by, a weather-related vehicle wreck occurred on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County, Florida. It appears a rain event caused a series of collisions. Authorities indicate that one driver is facing charges for the accident.*

The crash happened in the late evening on the southbound side of I-95, near County Road 210. Florida Highway Patrol and News 4 Jax report that around 9:30 p.m., a car of unknown make and model was traveling south and started to hydroplane. The car started to veer off the road and ended up causing a chain-reaction crash involving it and two tractor-trailers. The car then left the interstate and crashed into a guardrail. 

Authorities said that the weather was rainy at the time, though it is not clear if other circumstances influenced the crash. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers indicated that the driver of the car, who was not identified by officials, was facing charges in the case. No detailed information about the events transpiring before the accident was reported. 

News 4 Jax reports that one of the drivers was injured and taken to Memorial Hospital by emergency responders. This driver was not identified, and the extent of his or her injuries is not clear. It appears this person was driving one of the tractor-trailers, but this information was not confirmed in the news report. 

The driver of the other tractor-trailer was not identified in the report. No other injuries were said to have occurred due to the accident. The collision caused a portion of I-95 South to close down while crews worked at the scene and Troopers investigated. The lanes remained closed into the next morning. Troopers are still completing their investigation, and additional information has not been released at this time.
