Driver Crashes into Police Vehicles After Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in Bainbridge, Georgia

BAINBRIDGE, GA. – According to an online news report posted at, a driver crashed into two police vehicles after being involved in a pedestrian hit-and-run collision in Bainbridge, Georgia. Police had tracked the suspect down two days after the accident, and a confrontation ensued.*

The pedestrian collision occurred during the early morning on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Bainbridge. Bainbridge Public Safety and WALB report that officers were called to the scene of a pedestrian accident and while en route to the site were informed that the driver had fled the scene. Police arrived at the scene and found that the pedestrian, identified as a female, was visibly injured. 

WALB states the pedestrian had sustained a serious leg injury, and she was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her current condition is not known. The woman reportedly told investigators that she had been hit from behind while she was walking down the roadway. Officers discovered a broken vehicle mirror at the scene and were able to determine the vehicle involved by looking up the serial number on the mirror. 

Officers reportedly located the owner of the matching vehicle, who said that her son had been using her car at the time of the accident. Bainbridge Public Safety says that officers spent time looking for the suspect, identified as a 39-year-old man, and followed up on information regarding his whereabouts. The suspect arrived at the location while officers were surveilling, and the officers surrounded him with their vehicles.

WALB reports that the suspect reversed into one officer’s vehicle and then drove forward into another officer’s vehicle. He stopped and got out of the vehicle on orders from the officers and was placed under arrest. WALB states that he has been charged with numerous crimes, including felony hit-and-run and leaving the scene.
