One Tragically Killed in Suspected DUI Wreck on Grant Ford Dr. in Dawson County, Georgia

DAWSON COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report posted at, one person was tragically killed in what authorities believe was a DUI vehicle wreck on Grant Ford Drive in Dawson County, Georgia. Several other people were injured in the crash, which only involved one vehicle, according to the report.*

The accident happened during the overnight hours on a stretch of Grant Ford Drive. The specific location of the collision is not clear, as no intersection or block was provided. Georgia State Patrol and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution report that around 12:30 a.m., a 2004 Mazda 6 with five people inside was traveling on the roadway. It is not clear what direction the Mazda was headed. 

At some point in the drive, the Mazda left the edge of the roadway and crashed into several trees. After the impact, the vehicle overturned. The news report states that the crash happened at a high rate of speed. 

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that one of the passengers in the backseat of the Mazda was ejected during the accident and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she tragically died from her injuries. She was identified as a 20-year-old woman from Lula, Georgia. 

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution further reports that another passenger in the backseat was also ejected and taken to Atlanta Medical Center by medical helicopter. He was identified as a 21-year-old man from Lula. His injuries are said to be critical. 

The report says the two other unidentified passengers in the car were taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with unknown injuries. The driver, who was identified as a 21-year-old woman from Dawsonville, Georgia, was booked into the Dawson County Detention Center. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that she has been charged with homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence, among several other crimes.
