Georgia Man Tragically Dies in Interstate 70 Accident
ALTAMONT, IL – According to an online news report at effinghamdailynews.com, a man from Georgia tragically died in a crash that occurred over the weekend on Interstate 70, which is located approximately a mile from Altamont, Illinois. The accident involved four automobiles.*
According to the Illinois State Police, a man, aged 68- from Lawrenceville, Georgia died at the scene of an accident after a vehicle operated by a 69-year-old man from Gene Autry, Oklahoma, rear-ended the 68-year-old’s car. The 69-year-old was operating a 2016 silver Dodge Ram pickup truck, which hit the 68-year-old’s 2019 blue Ford passenger vehicle. The vehicles were going east on Interstate 70 close to mile marker 81. The impact of the crash caused the 68-year-old’s vehicle to hit into a third vehicle that was driven by a man, aged 31, from Saint Thomas, Pennsylvania. This individual was operating a 2013 gray Dodge Ram pickup truck.
This vehicle, as a result of the impact of the crash, was forced into a fourth automobile, a white 2020 Freightliner 18-wheeler, which was being operated by a 44-year-old man from Crocker, Missouri.
Some of the vehicles involved in the crash ended up in the right lane of traffic going east on Interstate 70 due to backed up traffic around a construction zone. After the pickup truck hit the Ford, it resulted in a chain reaction of crashes.
A passenger in the Freightliner is identified as a 35-year-old man from Springfield, Missouri. There were no other injuries reported in the accident. The 69-year-old man received a citation for his failure to reduce speed in time to avoid a collision, per the Illinois State Police.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crashes remain under investigation by the local police.
