Flour Voluntarily Recalled by General Mills Due to Potential E-coli Contamination

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – According to an online news report at, the company General Mills has voluntarily recalled flour due to potential E-coli contamination.*

The company has issued a recall of five-pound bags of its Gold Medal Unbleached All-Purpose Flour across the country due to concerns regarding E.colicontamination.  The flour subject to the recall has a “better if used by” date of September 6, 2020, per the Food and Drug Administration.  The UPC is 016000 196100.

According to the FDA’s website, “[t]he recall is being issued for the potential presence of E. coli O26 which was discovered during sampling of the five-pound bag product. The recall is being issued out of an abundance of care as General Mills has not received any direct consumer reports of confirmed illnesses related to this product.”

Consumers are recommended to properly clean all surfaces, utensils, and hands after coming in contact with dough or flour.

Most stains of E.coliare not harmful while others can cause you to become very ill.  E.coli is a potentially fatal bacterium that can cause severe dehydration and bloody diarrhea.  Those with comprised immune systems as well as children and the elderly are more likely to become ill.

Any consumer who is concerned about the illness should call their doctor.  If a person has become ill from E.coli 026 poisoning should contact local and state health officials.
