September 19, 2019

AUGUSTA, GA – According to an online news report at, Richmond County Dispatch notes that there was a motorcycle accident that occurred on Alexander Drive and Riverwatch Parkway.*

Dispatch notes that the accident occurred in the evening.  It is not clear whether any injuries occurred.  The roadway was ultimately cleared up to traffic.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.

The number of fatal accidents in Georgia has been increasing over the past two years where the number of deaths went by 33%.  In Georgia, there are 1,500 fatal accidents that occur each year.  This means that there are about 4 accident fatalities per day in the state.

One 18-year-old driver notes that she is always on alert and is watching out for everyone else when she is behind the wheel. "Most people just -- texting and driving -- and that's the most one, some people are eating, and some people are driving way too slow," said the teenager.  The young woman asserts that she does not want to take any chances of being involved in an accident following her father’s motorcycle accident where he almost lost an arm.  The teen further states that it took her father a long time to heal, and that it is “amazing to see what a motorcycle can do for your body.”

According to a male employee of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the state is far ahead the national average for roadway deaths.  "We hate seeing one life lost, much less over 1,500 every year, which is where we currently stand," says the man.  In Georgia, the GDOT indicates that 60% of those that were in a single vehicle accident did not maintain its lane, and in over half of the deaths, people were not properly restrained by a seat belt.
