Motorcycle Accident Occurs in New Castle, North Carolina

NEW CASTLE, NC – According to an online news report at, rescue workers from the Wilmington Fire Company as well as the New Castle County Police were dispatched to Route 13 close to the NCC Airport due to an accident involving a motorcyclist.*

The initial report on the accident provides that the motorcyclist was thrown from their vehicle.  The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The current status of the motorcyclist has not been publicly released.  There are no further details on the accident at this time.  

Between 2006 and 2015, the amount of motorcycles that are registered in the U.S. has gone up by nearly 30% from over 6 million to about 9 million.  These figures continue to increase due to the increasing interest of motorcyclists who are part of the baby boomer generation.  While the popularity of biking has increased, so has the number of fatalities among people aged 40 and over.  

According to, “in 2016, 5,286 people died in motorcycle crashes, up 5.1 percent from 5,029 in 2015, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Motorcycle deaths have increased for the second year in a row and are at the highest level since 2008, when 5,312 people died in motorcycle crashes. In 2016, motorcyclists were 28 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.”
