Vehicle Fatally Hits Pedestrian on Stone Mountain Hwy in Snellville, Georgia

SNELLVILLE, GA. – According to a news report posted online at, a vehicle fatally hit a pedestrian on Stone Mountain Highway in Snellville, Georgia. Officials have identified the victim but have not said why the accident occurred. It is not yet clear if any charges will be filed in the case.*

The accident happened in the morning, near Killian Hill Road in Snellville. The Gwinnett County Police Department and 11 Alive report that around 9:30 a.m., a pedestrian was walking in the roadway and was somehow struck by a Volkswagen Jetta. It is not clear what direction the vehicle was traveling before the accident, and the report did not say in what direction the pedestrian was walking. 

It appeared to police officers from initial investigation that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway at the time of the accident. Officers said that the victim was not inside a crosswalk, but they did not say whether a crosswalk was in the area. No potential factors that could have been involved in the accident were reported. 

11 Alive states that the pedestrian was injured and taken to a nearby hospital, where he tragically died. The report identified him as a 21-year-old man from Gwinnett, Georgia. 

The news report did not provide any identifying information on the driver of the Volkswagen. Officers did not say whether the driver might be charged in the case. It is unclear how many people were in the vehicle when the collision took place, and the report did not provide information about whether anyone in the car sustained injuries.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is still in the process of investigating the accident, and at the time that the 11 Alive report was posted online, no additional information had been released to the media.
