Man Seriously Injured When Car Crashes into Building in Atlanta, Georgia
ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news report posted at cbs46.com, a man was seriously injured when a car crashed into a building in Atlanta, Georgia. The driver of the car was reportedly fleeing from police and careened toward the building after causing a traffic accident on the roadway.*
The incident occurred in the early evening in the area of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Hortense Place. The Atlanta Police Department and CBS 46 report that around 5 p.m., officers attempted to stop a Lincoln MKS near this intersection. It is not clear why the traffic stop was initiated, but the report says that the Lincoln was allegedly stolen. The driver of the Lincoln fled from officers.
The Lincoln then entered the wrong lanes of travel, where it crashed into an eastbound Dodge pickup truck (model not reported). The Lincoln ran off the road following the impact and ended up crashing into the back of a parked Toyota van (model not reported) in the parking lot of a restaurant. The force of the crash pushed the van forward, trapping a bystander between the van and an outside wall of the restaurant.
CBS 46 reports that the bystander was injured in the accident and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. He was identified in the report as a 51-year-old man from Atlanta. His relatives reportedly said that he was still hospitalized in serious condition.
CBS 46 further reports that the driver of the Dodge truck was also taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. He was identified as a man from Atlanta.
The report states that police arrested the driver of the Lincoln, who was identified as a 30-year-old man. CBS 46 states that he has been charged with numerous crimes, including theft, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, aggravated battery, and hit-and-run, among others.
