Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Car Crashes into Restaurant
ATLANTA, GA – According to an online news report at ajc.com, a car crashed into the American Deli in northwest Atlanta, causing serious injuries to pedestrian.*
In the evening hours, officers uncovered a black sedan that had been reported as stolen from Clayton County, per an Atlanta Police Department spokesperson. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle at Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Chappell Road, the car fled the scene. At about a half mile away, the vehicle crossed over the median into oncoming traffic where it slammed into a pickup truck and then a van that was parked at the American Deli on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.
The accident ended up causing damage to the outside of the restaurant A man that was outside of the deli at the time of the crash sustained serious injuries to his lower body. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Before the accident occurred, police noted “how reckless [the driver] chose to be.” As a result, the patrol vehicle never started a chase with the suspect. Alternatively, officers chose to have an air unit follow the vehicle. However, the driver of the vehicle crashed before it could escape too much further.
Three people that were located in the getaway vehicle were taken into custody following the accident. The Georgia State Patrol was called in to conduct an investigation of the accident since the suspect attempted to flee the scene of a police traffic stop. Due to the crash, the roadway was blocked in both directions so that emergency personnel and law enforcement could work the scene.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. Details on the status of the male pedestrian have not been released. The accident remains under investigation by the local police.
