Fourteen-Year-Old Boy Hit by Car While Walking to School Has Died in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA, GA. —A fourteen-year-old boy died as a result of critical injuries he sustained while attempting to cross an Atlanta street on his way to school. WSBTV2 that the boy who was killed was walking with “his best friend” when the crash occurred. The fatal crash occurred on a Friday morning around 8:15 a.m. near 2595 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in the northeast section of Atlanta. Witnesses said that the boy’s mother and friends were hysterical on scene. Police are attempting trying to determine why the deadly crash occurred. Atlanta Police investigators did not say if they would charge the driver of the car that hit the pedestrian. Their investigation continues. *

A reporter for WSBTV2 happened to be on scene within mere moments of the crash. The reporter indicated that the injured boy did not appear to be conscious. He said people nearby rushed to the child’s aid and were tending to him as first responders began arriving. One woman told the reporter that she did all she could do when she saw the accident. She saw the boy on the ground and promptly pulled her car over. She said she checked for a pulse and held the boy while first responders raced to help.

Paramedics treated the boy rapidly at the scene of the accident and then rushed him to a nearby hospital. The hospital performed life-saving measures. The boy died the day after the accident despite the physicians’ and paramedics’ heroic efforts. 

The driver of the car that hit the boy brought the vehicle to a stop and remained at the scene. Authorities said that an 11-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in the fatal pedestrian accident.

Witnesses said that the driver of the vehicle that struck the boy appeared to be speeding at the time of the crash. Police have not confirmed that witness’s account of how the accident transpired. The accident remains under investigation.
