Bicyclist Struck by Tow Truck on Central Ave. in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA, GA. – According to a news report published online at, a bicyclist was struck by a tow truck on Central Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. The cyclist sustained multiple injuries in the accident and was taken to the hospital, according to the report. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.*

The accident happened in the afternoon at the intersection of Central Avenue SW and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta. The Atlanta Police Department and 11 Alive report that around 1 p.m., authorities were called to the area on a report of a pedestrian-versus-vehicle collision. Officers went to the scene and found that a tow truck had somehow run into a bicyclist. 

It is not clear how the accident occurred. The report did not say if the cyclist was trying to cross the intersection or if the tow truck ran into the bicycle under another set of circumstances. The factors potentially contributing to the wreck have not been described yet by investigators. The name of the company affiliated with the tow truck was not named in the report. 

11 Alive reports that the bicyclist was injured in the collision and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police officers said that his injuries consisted of cuts to his arms and legs and a head injury. They indicated he was taken away from the scene by ambulance and was alert at the time of transport. He was not identified in the report, and his current condition was not provided.

The driver of the tow truck was also not identified in the report. It is unclear if he or she was injured. 

The Atlanta Police Department is still investigating the accident, and at the time the news report was published, officers had not said whether charges were expected in the case.
