Five People Hospitalized Following Berkeley County Vehicle Crash

September 04, 2019

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC – According to an online news report at counton2.com, the South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested an individual who was driving under the influence, which caused five individuals to be sent to the hospital.*

The male driver, aged 51, from Moncks Corner is facing charges of Felony Driving Under the Influence – Resulting in Great Bodily Injury.  Troopers note that the crash occurred in the early morning hours on South Carolina highway 41 close to Farewell Corner Road.  There were two vehicles that were involved in the accident.  The 51-year-old who was driving a 1999 Toyota 2-Door sedan, was going south on SC 41 where he struck a 1999 Dodge Van that was going northbound.

There were 5 occupants in the Dodge van who were taken to local hospitals after sustaining injuries during the accident. The 51-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of injuries that he sustained in the crash.  Upon his release, the man was charged by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and was taken to a local detention center. His bond hearing was earlier this week.

According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, it is illegal to operate a vehicle when impaired.  Specifically, South Carolina Law indicates that a person is prohibited from driving a vehicle when he or she has a BAC of 0.08% or greater.   If you are convicted of driving under the influence, you could face huge monetary penalties, jail time, and a revocation of your license for a specific period of time.
