Vehicle Collision on I-40 in Raleigh, North Carolina, Kills One, Injures Three
RALEIGH, NC. – According to an online news story published by newsobserver.com, a vehicle collision that happened on Interstate 40 in Raleigh, North Carolina, tragically killed one person and injured three others. The events preceding the collision have not been reported in detail, and the news story indicates police are still investigating.*
The accident took place in the late morning by Lake Wheeler Road on the eastbound side of I-40. The Raleigh Police department and The News & Observer report that at about 11:45 a.m., a Mercedes of unknown make and model and a Stand Up Guys Junk Removal truck were stopped on the interstate. It is not clear from the report why the two were stopped. The report says the driver of the Mercedes was outside of her vehicle, standing in the roadway.
Police say that an eastbound truck of unknown make and model was approaching the two stopped vehicles and did not reduce its speed. The truck then slammed into the junk removal truck, after which it rotated and struck the Mercedes driver. The junk removal truck then crashed into the back of the Mercedes, while the other truck turned onto its side and caught on fire.
The News & Observer reports that the driver of the truck tragically died in the collision. This driver was identified as a resident Efland, North Carolina. It does not appear any passengers were inside the truck.
The News & Observer further reports that the Mercedes driver and two people inside the junk removal truck were injured. The Mercedes driver was identified as a woman from Raleigh. She is said to be in critical condition. The people from the junk removal truck were said to have non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the accident is under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
