14-Year-Old Child Injured in Fishing Accident in Bradenton, Florida

September 03, 2019

BRADENTON, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, a 14-year-old child was seriously injured in a fishing accident that occurred in Bradenton, Florida. The events of the accident are not completely clear, but the child’s family says his doctors are calling him a “walking miracle” after the recovery he’s already made.*

The accident occurred during a fishing trip the child and his brother were taking while their parents were vacationing in the Bahamas. The boy’s father says that the brothers were traveling fast on the boat and somehow, the boat’s anchor fell and then became tensioned, shooting back into the boat. The anchor struck the 14-year-old boy in the head and impaled his forehead.

The boy’s parents received a call about the accident and rushed home. He needed immediate surgery and was in a medically induced coma when they arrived at his bedside. The boy’s parents said that the anchor drove three inches into the child’s head and barely missed a major vessel.

“If it had gone just a little bit further, it would’ve killed him,” the boy’s mother told reporters.

The boy says he remembers the accident and the moments shortly after, when he called out for someone to dial 911. He says he believed he was going to die. But only 10 days after the accident, his family says he was walking out of the hospital on his own.

“The doctor says there’s no way around it: This kid is a walking miracle,” his father said.

Following the accident, the family’s friends and community organized a fishing tournament in honor of the boy. With the help of people and businesses contributing to the event, the family received $30,000 to help cover the child’s medical expenses — a gesture they say was the second miracle involved in the incident.
