Mother, Son Involved in Fatal Single-Vehicle Accident on Royal Palm Blvd. in Margate, Florida

MARGATE, FL. – According to an online news story reported by, a mother and son were involved in a fatal single-vehicle accident that happened on Royal Palm Boulevard in Margate, Florida. The boy was tragically killed in the accident, according to Local 10, and the mother was seriously injured.*

The accident happened in the late evening near Northwest 73rd Avenue on Palm Bay Boulevard. The Margate Police Department and Local 10 report that at about 11 p.m., a 2017 Nissan Sentra was traveling eastbound on the roadway, when the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle. The Nissan then traveled off the roadway and crashed into a tree. 

Troopers are not yet sure what led to the driver’s loss of control. They did not provide immediate information about the factors they might be looking into as potential contributors to the wreck. No other vehicles appear to have been involved in the accident. 

Local 10 reports that a boy who was riding in the Nissan was ejected from the vehicle during the impact, and he tragically died at the scene. He was identified as being 5 years old. No information was reported about whether the child was properly restrained inside the vehicle. 

Local 10 further reports that the driver of the Nissan was seriously injured in the crash and taken to Broward Health North. She was identified as a 22-year-old woman. Her city of residence was not reported. She is said to be in critical condition. 

Florida Highway Patrol is still in the process of investigating the wreck. A Trooper was quoted in the news story as saying that speeding causes these types of deadly accidents, but the agency has not confirmed whether speed played a role in this crash. No further information was reported by Local 10.
