September 01, 2019

COLUMBIA COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, a woman was tragically killed in a car crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 27 in Columbia County, Florida. The collision appears to have happened head-on, and authorities are still investigating to find out what caused the crash.*

The accident happened close to Southwest Mapleton Street on U.S. 27. Authorities and WCJB report that two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on the highway, when one of the vehicles somehow crossed over the median. WCJB reports that the driver of second vehicle — the vehicle that was struck head-on — was tragically killed in the accident. The news report identified her as a 33-year-old woman from Lake City, Florida.

In addition, the report states that the driver of the first vehicle was injured and taken to a local hospital. This driver was not identified in the report. His or her injuries are said to be critical. It is unclear from the information contained in the report if any passengers were riding in the vehicles when the accident took place.

Authorities are still in the midst of completing their investigation of the crash. At the time of the WCJB report’s posting online, no further information about the collision or the case had been released.
