Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian, Flees Scene on Floyd Road in Cobb County, Georgia

COBB COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report from, a driver fatally hit a pedestrian and then fled the scene on Floyd Road in Cobb County, Georgia. Police officers are still searching for the driver and are asking for help from the public in tracking down a suspect and making an arrest.* 

The accident occurred during the late evening hours, near White Boulevard on Floyd Road. The Cobb County Police Department and 11 Alive report that around 11:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling north on Floyd ran into a pedestrian. Officers say that the pedestrian was trying to cross Floyd at the time. The report did not say whether he was inside of a crosswalk or what direction he was crossing.

Following the accident, police say the driver of the vehicle did not remain at the site of the collision. The vehicle continued north on the roadway and fled the scene. Based on investigation and evidence-gathering performed at the scene, police believe the vehicle is a Dodge Ram pickup truck from 2013 or later. Officers say the vehicle is dark in color and has a broken driver’s side headlight. 

11 Alive reports that the pedestrian was ambulanced to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with critical injuries, and he tragically died at the hospital. He was identified by officials as a 44-year-old man from Atlanta, Georgia. 

No description of the driver was provided in the report. It is not clear if the driver was injured or if the driver was alone in the vehicle. 

At the time that the story from 11 Alive was published online, officers had not located a suspect. Police are asking for anyone with information about the accident or the whereabouts of the truck or driver to contact the Cobb County Police Department as soon as possible at (770) 499-3987.
