Two Motorcyclists Tragically Killed in Crash on Gunn Hwy in Hillsborough County, Florida

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news story reported at, two motorcyclists were tragically killed in a crash that happened on Gunn Highway in Hillsborough County, Florida. The investigation of the crash is still in its early stages, and authorities believe speeding might have been a factor in the collision.*

The accident happened sometime in the early morning or overnight hours, near Racetrack Road. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Tampa Bay Reporter report that around 6 a.m., emergency crews were called to the scene on a call about a traffic accident. Authorities arrived to find that two people were in the roadway, having apparently crashed their motorcycle. 

Deputies say that a motorist passing by the area saw the motorcycle and stopped, then called 911 when he noticed the two victims. The Tampa Bay Reporter states that both people who had been riding on the motorcycle were fatally injured and tragically died at the scene. Identifying information on the two victims has not yet been released, as officials had not been able to contact next-of-kin. The report said one of the victims was a man, and the other was a woman.

Based on preliminary investigation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office believes that the motorcycle crashed inside of a curve in the road. It appeared that the driver lost control, and the bike struck a road sign. Deputies think that speeding might have played a role in the accident. During the impact, both people on the motorcycle were thrown from the bike.

Following the collision, crews closed down Gunn Highway from Racetrack Road to Copeland Road to allow for investigation at the scene. It is not clear how long the highway was blocked. Investigation into the accident is still ongoing, and no additional information was included in the news report.
