Driver of Commercial Vehicle Dies in Accident on Turnpike in Ohio

BROWNHELM TOWNSHIP, OH – According to an online news report at, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation of a two-vehicle deadly accident on the Ohio Turnpike.*

According to a preliminary investigation by law enforcement, it determined that a commercial vehicle going westbound exited the roadway on the right side, causing it to travel through a grassy gore, slam into an embankment for the entrance/exit ramp lanes, vault over the lanes, strike another vehicle, and come to a final stop in a ditch located on the side of the road.  The vehicle then caught fire and became engulfed in flames with the driver pinned inside.

The driver of the commercial vehicle has been identified as a male, aged 50, from Cordova, Ohio.  The man was driving a 2015 International 18-wheeler that was pulling a box trailer.  The trailer was loaded with freight, but nothing contained therein was hazardous. The man died as a result of the impact of the accident. The man had no passengers in the vehicle. Whether or not he was wearing his seat belt is unknown given the extent of the damage to the truck.

The operator of the minivan has been identified as a 40-year-old man from Olmsted Falls, Ohio.  The man was driving a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country that was transporting three passengers.  The man was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident and was not injured in the crash.  His passenger, a 45-year-old female from Olmsted Falls, Ohio was wearing a seat belt however, sustained serious injuries in the accident.  She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  There were two minor passengers in the minivan at the time of the accident.  Both had been properly restrained in child safety seats and neither child was injured.
