UPS Driver Injured in Serious Accident that Occurred Earlier this Week in Lancaster, South Carolina
LANCASTER, SC – According to an online news report at newsmaven.io, a driver for UPS had to be extricated from his delivery truck following a serious accident that occurred earlier this week in Lancaster, South Carolina.*
Earlier this week in the evening hours, numerous emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a crash involving a UPS truck in Lancaster, South Carolina. The accident occurred in the northern-bound lanes of Charlotte Highway (North Carolina State Highway 521) due north of Nursery Road. The responders came upon the scene of the accident where the UPS truck sustained serious damage to its front end as a result of the crash. The driver of the truck became pinned in the vehicle due to the significant force of the accident.
Eventually, the man was freed from the truck. Due to the extent of the UPS driver’s injuries, a medical helicopter was requested to two different agencies however, they could not come to the scene of the accident due to inclement weather. Northern-bound traffic was brought to a standstill so that rescue personnel could work the scene. The UPS driver, who was the only occupant of the truck, was taken by the Lancaster County EMS to a hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. The extent of the man’s injuries is not known at this time. According to another UPS driver that was on the scene, the driver sustained injuries to his head but was conscious and alert when emergency personnel arrived at the scene. According to law enforcement, a portion of the front of the UPS truck was smashed inward.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reopened the northerly-bound lanes of the roadway about 1 hour following the crash. There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
