One Killed, One Injured in Vehicle Crash on I-75 in Fort Myers, Florida

FORT MYERS, FL. – According to an online news story reported at, one person was tragically killed, and another person was injured in a vehicle crash that happened on Interstate 75 in Fort Myers, Florida. It appears that only one vehicle was involved, and the driver lost control. Florida Highway Patrol is handling the accident investigation.* 

The accident happened in the evening at the ramp to Interstate 75 North from Alico Road. Florida Highway Patrol and News-Press report that around 9 p.m., a 2008 Ford F-350 was headed north on the ramp’s outside lane, when the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle. It is not clear at this time what led to the loss of control on the part of the driver.

The news report indicates that the front passenger’s side of the Ford crashed into a guardrail, after which the vehicle spun and turned over. The vehicle reportedly flipped over the on-ramp and then came to an uncontrolled stop. Troopers did not immediately identify the events that might have led to the accident or any factors that might have played a role in the collision. 

News-Press reports that the driver of the Ford was tragically killed in the accident. He was identified as a 40-year-old man from Lehigh Acres, Florida. The report indicates he died at the scene. 

News-Press further reports that a passenger in the Ford was seriously injured and flown from the scene to Lee Memorial Hospital by way of a medical helicopter. He was identified as a 36-year-old man from Lehigh Acres. His injuries were said to be critical. 

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating. Troopers stated at a standard toxicology analysis was being conducted, the results of which were not available at the time the News-Press report was published. No further information about the crash was reported.
