August 27, 2019

HORRY COUNTY, SC. – According to a news report posted online at myrtlebeachonline.com, a child was tragically killed in a single-car wreck that happened on Juniper Bay Road in Horry County, South Carolina. The news report indicates that one other person was injured in the accident, and State Troopers are investigating.*

The collision happened in the morning at the crossing of Juniper Bay Road and Jeffords Drive. This is near U.S. Highway 378 and the Conway-Horry County Airport. South Carolina Highway Patrol and Myrtle Beach Online report that shortly before 8 a.m., a 2014 Hyundai Elantra was headed eastbound on Juniper Bay Road, and it somehow ran off the roadway.

The report indicates that the Hyundai traveled off the right edge of the road and then crashed into a ditch. It is not clear at this time what caused the driver to veer off the road. Authorities have not listed any potential contributors to the wreck or provided any reasons they think the accident happened. No other vehicles appear to have been involved in the collision.

The news report says that the driver of the Hyundai and a juvenile passenger in the Hyundai were both injured. Myrtle Beach Online reports the child passenger tragically died of his injuries. The Horry County Coroner’s Office indicated he was 8 years old.

The driver was reportedly transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. The driver was not identified, and the extent of this person’s injuries was not reported. A current medical condition for him or her is not known. It does not appear that anyone else was in the Hyundai when it crashed.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating, and Troopers have not released additional information. At the time of the news report’s publishing, it was not known if charges were anticipated.
