One Tragically Killed in Head-On Crash on Hwy 15-401 in Marlboro County, South Carolina

MARLBORO COUNTY, SC. – According to a news report posted online at, one person was tragically killed in a head-on vehicle crash that happened on Highway 15-401 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. The news report indicates that three vehicles were involved in the wreck, and three other people were injured.* 

The accident happened in the early evening by Society Hill on Highway 15-401. South Carolina Highway Patrol and WMBF report that at about 5:30 p.m., a 2006 Ford (model not reported) was traveling southbound on the highway, while a Chevrolet pickup truck (year and model not reported) was traveling north on the highway. 

At some point in the roadway, the Ford crossed over the centerline and drove into oncoming traffic. In entering the northbound lane, the Ford struck the Chevy pickup head-on. A 2010 Chevrolet car (model not reported) then crashed into the Ford. It is not clear what direction the Chevy car had been traveling at the time. 

WMBF reports that one person, a passenger in the Chevy pickup truck, was tragically killed in the accident. The Marlboro County Coroner’s Office identified her as a 64-year-old woman. Her city of residence was not reported. 

WMBF further reports that the drivers of all three vehicles were injured in the accident. The driver of the Ford and the driver of the Chevy pickup were transported to McLeod Regional Medical Center with what the report describes as serious injuries. The driver of the Chevy car was transported to McLeod Health Cheraw. Identifying information on these drivers and current medical statuses were not reported. 

South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating. At this time, it is not clear what caused the driver of the Ford to cross over the centerline and hit the pickup truck. No additional details were reported.
