Quincy, Florida, Community Feeling Effects of Collapsed Bridge on Hutchinson Ferry Road

August 27, 2019

QUINCY, FL. – According to an online news story printed at, the community in Quincy, Florida, is feeling the effects of a collapsed bridge on Hutchinson Ferry Road. The bridge collapsed suddenly and caused two drivers to sustain injuries after their vehicles traveled over the gap in the downed bridge. Repairs to the road are currently underway.*

The collapse happened sometime prior to 5 a.m. on Hutchinson Ferry Road, close to Lewis Lane. Florida Highway Patrol and ABC report that shortly after 5 a.m., two vehicles came upon the bridge and ended up driving over the gap where the bridge had collapsed. The first of the two vehicles, a Chevrolet Silverado, flew into the air and crashed after turning onto its roof. The second of the vehicles, a Ford Taurus, also flew into the air and crashed.

The drivers of both vehicles reportedly sustained injuries and were taken to hospitals for medical care. The driver of the Chevy was seriously injured, the report says. Current conditions on the two drivers were not reported, and neither of the drivers was identified in the news story. The Gadsden County Administrator has stated that the collapse occurred because of heavy rains and higher amounts of traffic on the road due to workers responding to Hurricane Michael.

People in the town of Quincy are feeling trapped after the collapse, as the bridge led out of a neighborhood. Some people are not able to leave their homes because of the closure on the road and other nearby roads. They’re wondering how quickly things can be fixed.

The road is maintained by the county, according to the report, but the Florida Department of Transportation will be helping with repairs. As of now, county officials do not know when the repairs will be finished or the road will be reopened.
