Mayor of Ludowici, Georgia, Calling for Traffic Light at Busy Intersection

August 26, 2019

LUDOWICI, GA. – According to a news story reported online at, the mayor of Ludowici, Georgia, is calling for a traffic light to be installed at an intersection in the city. The intersection is heavily congested and has seen several fatal vehicle wrecks in the last several years, the mayor says, but the state has yet to respond.*

The intersection at issue is Highway 84 and Macon Street. Mayor James Fuller Jr. says that his office has contacted the Georgia Department of Transportation several times about problems at the intersection, but the department has so far not moved to change anything. The intersection is already famous for rush hour congestion, especially at the start and end of the school day, and more accidents have been happening there, too. Many trains also pass through the area each day, slowing things down further.

“Four thousand kids in school, all going to school at the same time, plus 29 trains a day going back and forth,” Mayor Fuller said of the traffic at Highway 84 and Macon. “What happens about 7:20 – 7:25 in the morning, we have a train, and it slows traffic down.”

Fuller says that because the population of the city is currently growing, the intersection needs to be changed. He is advocating for a stoplight to be installed there to divert some traffic away from the area and to make the intersection safer for motorists, pedestrians, and parents taking their children to school.

“I have seen a lot of traffic, and I have seen very close accidents to where someone almost got into a car accident,” Fuller said. “So by them putting a traffic light right here at this intersection, I think it would help out significantly because it has more control over the traffic that’s traveling north and south on 84.”
