Woman Dead, One Injured in Sawgrass Expressway Crash in Broward County, Florida

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – According to online news reports at and, a two-vehicle accident turned fatal for one individual on the Sawgrass Expressway earlier this week.*

Early in the morning, the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of a two-automobile crash that occurred on the southerly side of Florida State Road 869, which is located south of Atlantic Boulevard.  The vehicles were both heavily damaged with debris blocking all of the southbound lanes of the roadway.

Per the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2009 black Honda Accord that was driven by a 38-year-old woman from Weston, Florida came to rest in the grassy median of the road. Her vehicle was facing east and was heavily damaged due to the impact of the other vehicle and a subsequent collision with a guardrail.  The woman sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the accident.

A 2016 silver Hyundai that was operated by a 37-year-old woman from Coral Springs flipped over and finally stopped in the center lane while facing east.  She was transported to a local hospital.  Her current condition is unknown at this time. 

During the morning commute, there were massive delays for drivers heading southbound on the highway. There was also gridlock-like conditions on ancillary roads around the Sawgrass Expressway. 

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by the local police.  There are no further details on the accident.
