Man Hit and Killed in Accident that Closed Interstate 69 in Coldwater, Michigan
COLDWATER, MI – According to an online news report at wtvbam.com, a fatal vehicle-pedestrian accident closed Interstate 69 for a significant period of time while emergency personnel worked the scene. The pedestrian perished as a result of the accident.*
The accident happened on Interstate 69 close to the Jonesville exit which caused traffic delays for miles on the southerly side of the interstate earlier this week. It also jammed up nearby routes in the Coldwater, Michigan area.
According to the Michigan State Police, they report that the accident occurred in the late afternoon hours. Pursuant to their initial investigation, a man, aged 67, from Riverview, Michigan had stopped on the shoulder of the highway to perform maintenance on his vehicle. The victim was located outside of his vehicle when a car that passed by hit him. The man perished at the scene of the accident.
It is not believed that alcohol is a factor in causing the crash. The Michigan State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting in the investigation of the accident.
Traffic on the southerly side of Interstate 69 became backed up for miles into Calhoun County, Michigan. The interstate opened back up right after 7:00 p.m.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The accident remains under investigation by local authorities.
