Two Airlifted After Vehicle Accident on Hwy 301 in Wilson, North Carolina

WILSON, NC. – According to an online news story reported by, two people were airlifted to nearby hospitals with injuries following a vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 301 in Wilson, North Carolina. One other person was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report, but was taken by private vehicle.* 

The accident happened in the morning close to the exit to Highway 42 on Highway 301. The Wilson Police Department and WITN report that two vehicles were somehow involved in a wreck in this area. Authorities and paramedics were called to the scene, and crews then called in a medical helicopter to transport some of the injured persons. 

The makes and models of the vehicles that wrecked were not reported in the news story, and it is not clear how they ended up colliding. The nature and circumstances of the accident were not reported, nor was any information about which driver might have been at fault in connection with the crash. 

WITN reports that three people were injured in the accident. None of the injured persons was identified by the report. Two of the injured people reportedly had to be flown from the site of the crash to Vidant Medical Center. Their injuries were said to be serious. The third injured person was reportedly taken to Wilson Medical Center by way of a private vehicle, not an ambulance. 

The accident caused Highway 301 to shut down on both sides, starting at the eastbound exit ramp to Highway 42 and extending to the intersection of Lipscomb Road and Highway 301. It is not clear how long the road closure lasted. The Wilson Police Department is investigating the accident, and at the time of the WITN report’s publishing online, no further information about the accident or the case investigation was available.
