Pedestrian Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Barnett St. in Jacksonville, Florida

JACKSONVILLE, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a pedestrian was injured in a hit-and-run crash that happened on Barnett Street in Jacksonville, Florida. Authorities are still searching for the driver who was involved in the crash and are encouraging anyone with information to contact them.*

The accident took place in the overnight hours, close to the intersection of Barnett Street and West Fifth Street in Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and News 4 Jax report that emergency crews were dispatched to the area near the intersection around 1 a.m. on a call about a pedestrian accident. Authorities arrived to find a person lying in the roadway, having apparently been struck by a vehicle. The driver who hit the person was no longer at the scene when authorities responded. 

It is not clear at this time what direction or where the pedestrian was walking at the time. The report does not say if he or she was inside a lane of travel or had been walking on the edge of the roadway when the accident happened. It is also not clear what direction the vehicle had been traveling or in what direction it left from the scene. 

News 4 Jax reports that emergency responders transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries. The victim’s identifying information was not provided in the news report. His or her injuries were described in the report as life-threatening. A current medical condition is not known. 

No descriptive information on the vehicle or a suspect was included in the news report. Sheriff’s deputies are reportedly trying to gather surveillance footage that might give investigators a better idea of what happened. Authorities ask anyone who might have helpful information about the incident to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office by calling (904) 630-0500.
