Woman Tragically Killed in Scooter Accident at Robbie Lee Rd. on Flemming Island, Florida
FLEMMING ISLAND, FL. – According to an online news report posted at news4jax.com, a woman was tragically killed in a scooter accident that occurred near Robbie Lee Road on Flemming Island in Florida. The woman was reportedly riding on a scooter, when a vehicle hit her and left the scene.*
The accident happened during the early morning hours, close to the intersection of Robbie Lee Road and Sandridge Road. Florida Highway Patrol and News 4 Jax report that at about 2:30 a.m., a woman was riding on a 50 cc Suzuki scooter on the westbound side of Sandridge Road. Troopers say that by the intersection, a car crashed into the back of the scooter. The car then left the scene, and the driver did not alert authorities.
It appears that the woman was thrown from the scooter during the accident. Authorities arrived to find her lying near U.S. Highway 17, which is shortly south of Village Square Parkway. It is not clear what events led to the accident or how the collision happened. Authorities do not yet know the cause of the collision or the reason the driver fled from the scene.
News 4 Jax reports that emergency crews took the woman to Orange Park Medical Center, where she tragically died from her injuries. She was identified as a 45-year-old woman. Her city of residence was not included in the news report.
The driver of the car has not been identified, and as of the time of the news report’s posting, he or she had not been found. Make and model information on the car is not available, but Troopers said it is believed to be a black car with front-end damage.
