Two Drivers Injured After Bridge Collapses on Hutchinson Ferry Rd. in Quincy, Florida

August 23, 2019

QUINCY, FL. – According to an online news report posted at, two drivers were injured after a bridge collapses on Hutchinson Ferry Road in Quincy, Florida. The bridge is located at the border between Florida and Georgia, and authorities shut down the roadway following two accidents that resulted from the collapse.*

The collapse happened sometime overnight or early in the morning. Florida Highway Patrol and WTXL report that at about 5 a.m., two vehicles — a Chevrolet Silverado and a Ford Taurus —were headed southbound on Hutchinson Ferry Road, near Lewis Lane. The Chevy came to the collapse and went airborne over it, according to the report, then rolled and came to a rest on its roof.

Not long after, the Ford also came to the collapse and flew over it, sustaining front-end damage and damage to the undercarriage of the vehicle. The collisions happened within about 30 minutes of each other, the report says. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur County Fire Rescue, and Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Authorities shut down the roadway around the collapse and began rerouting traffic in the area.

WTXL reports the driver of the Chevy was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His family members reportedly stated that he was seriously injured and needed surgery. He was not identified in the news report.

WTXL further reports that the driver of the Ford was also injured and taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The extent of this person’s injuries was not clear, and he or she was also not identified. It appears both drivers were alone.

As of the time of the report, authorities had not said what caused the bridge to collapse. Investigators were at the scene, and no information about the events leading to the incident was reported.
