Vehicle Crash on NE Pine Island Rd. in North Fort Myers, Florida, Tragically Kills One
NORTH FORST MYERS, FL. – According to an online news story reported at nbc-2.com, a vehicle crash that happened on NE Pine Island Road in North Fort Myers, Florida, tragically killed one person. The accident involved five vehicles in total and appears to have started with a rear-end collision on the roadway.*
The wreck happened during the afternoon close to Barrett Road on NE Pine Island Road. Florida Highway Patrol and NBC 2 report that sometime before 4:30 p.m., several vehicles were traveling west on State Road 78 and came upon an area of congested traffic. The vehicles slowed in response, but Troopers say one of the drivers failed to slow down and ended up crashing into the vehicle in front of him.
This set off a chain reaction of events, according to the report, that ultimately involved five vehicles crashing into each other. It is not clear at this time what caused the driver of the last vehicle to become involved in the rear-end crash. Authorities have not provided information at this time about what circumstances might have played a role in the accident.
NBC 2 reports that one of the people involved in the accident was tragically killed. She was identified as a 72-year-old woman. Her city of residence was not reported. It is not clear if she was a driver or a passenger in one of the five vehicles.
The driver of the car that started the collision was identified as a 32-year-old man. His city of residence was also not reported. NBC 2 reports that he sustained injuries in the wreck and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries is unclear.
It is not clear if anyone else was injured in the accident. The report says that all five of the vehicles were totaled.
